Deciding what Size of Sewing Pattern to Choose

Image
How do you decide what size of our pattern to sew? The pattern comes with a body measurement chart which you can use to decide. The most important deciding factor is usually the bust. So select a size closest to your bust measurement. This is because the bust-armhole region is always the most difficult area to alter so you don’t want to mess with that. You can easily alter the waist and hip lines. The type of pattern will also influence how you decide, each pattern also comes with the approximate finished dimensions so you have an idea of how much ease has been included. Each pattern also comes with the approximate finished a dimension so

See What Our Volunteer Testers Made

Hello. How are you doing? So in today's post I will be showing what volunteer testers have made out of our patterns. A pattern tester helps to check the fit of a pattern and quality of the instruction set before we finally release.

Presenting EBUN- A Sewing Pattern

Image
Today's post is featuring the third pattern of our new pattern releases. Ebun  is a simple but versatile kimono semi-fitted top featuring a rounded hem with dips on the centre front and centre back. The neckline, sleeve hem and hemline are finished using bias–facing techniques discussed here and here . It is an easy and quick sewing pattern. A wide variety of  fabric could be used ranging from chiffon to African wax print. Below are pictures

Presenting RENIKEJI- A Sewing Pattern

Image
Today's post is featuring the Renikeji sewiing pattern, the second of our new releases.  The Renikeji can be a top you can pair on your jeans or a dress. The dress can easily transition from day to evening, dress it down or dress it up as you wish- work, church, an evening out-good to go. The regal looking Renikeji is way easier to sew up than it looks. Our detailed and beautifully illustrated sewing instruction set makes sure of that. Once the PDF pattern tiles have been assembled, this dress can be cut and sewn in about 3 hours. It is a close fitting dress that has no fastening therefore requires a knit fabric that has enough stretch.

Presenting EKINNI- A Sewing Pattern

Image
The Ekinni dress is so me. My kind of dress- easy to wear, slip on, no zip, no buttons, elasticated waist line so I can eat well and not feel constrained (lol), can be dressed up or dressed down for different moods/looks/occasion. I hope you like it too. It is the very first sewing pattern I designed, hence the name "Ekinni" which means "First" in the Yoruba language.

Self-made Bias Tape Facing In 10 Easy Steps

Image
Hello all. this is the second post on Bias Facing. Here, self-made bias that is cut out of the shell/self/design fabric is used. This example only shows Bias Facing "in the round" since its basically the same thing as "in the flat". Please check previous posts here and here to understand what I mean by "in the round" and "in the flat".

Bias Facing 1

The post today is on "bias facing". this is an edge finishing technique that is often wrongly described as "bias binding" which was treated in a previous post . Using pre-made bias-binding tape. The bias tape here is and 1/2" single fold tape i.e it appears as half an inch on the roll but when opened up, it measures 1" with two fold lines, splitting it into 3 panels. This is the commonest type in Nigerian markets.
