New Sewing Pattern Alert- The Bailey Bolero Jacket

Image
Hello. So I said in a post last week , that this month of July will see a number of new pattern releases for your sewing pleasure. I also previewed one of the new patterns. Yes the Bailey Bolero Jacket is here. Bailey is a bolero jacket with high roll shawl collar that is convertible to a revers jacket if lined with shell fabric. This classic jacket will instantly up-level any outfit you throw it on. This jacket, you may have guessed, is inspired by the Ralph Lauren outfit Melania Trump wore at the presidential inauguration. Most notable difference is that I opted for  set in sleeves instead of  raglan.

Aria Sewing Pattern Release

Yay! the Aria top is the SewExplicit Patterns latest sewing pattern. The Aria top features an underarm cowl and a basic round neck finished with a neckband. This laid back style can be worn casually on a pair of jeans or lengthened to make a sassy short party dress. The Aria pattern is an easy make, quick sewing and it is suitable for beginners. Aria is designed for knit fabric with enough vertical and horizontal stretch to wear without the need of fastening.

Hello everyone and Happy new month. It has been a while. So I have been working on a set of new sewing patterns to be released this month of July.  you remember this Melania Trump jacket I did a tutorial on   here  ? I have finally made up my version of the jacket, well not exactly. I ditched the raglan sleeve in favour of set-in sleeves.

Misses Basic Bodice Block Revised and Updated

Image
Did you download our free bodice block? Oops I just noticed a little ish on the back bodice shoulder dart. The dart legs aren’t trued, that is when you close the darts, the back shoulder line doesn’t match up properly. Did you notice? My bad. I am sorry for this oversight and I have corrected it. I have brought down the old download link and here is the link to the revised and updated pattern in Size 10 only. https://dl.orangedox.com/zouUyc47bmhWFZ20j0  Did you purchase the full size range, please check your email for download link for the updated version. If you have downloaded any of our patterns, I would sincerely appreciate your feedback. POST UPDATE, 11TH APRIL,2017 So the link I posted above is for the free trouser block and not the revised basic  bodice block. I am sorry once again. Here is the new link.

Celebrity Style Hack: Melania Trump Inauguration Outfit by Ralph Lauren.

Image
Hello all. HAppy new month! How are you doing? So today we are delving into patternmaking. Yay! No better way than to start with this outfit designed by Ralph Lauren for Melania Trump for the Inauguration ceremony. So this outfit trended cos it was so gorgeous and very apt for the occasion. Me likey.  I plan to make the “Celebrity Style HacK” a fixture on the blog where I will be showing you how I think a (trending) celebrity outfit has been patterned. Hopefully, I might get around to making and sewing actual samples for us to see, or you (yes you) might just help us with the sample and send it to me or tag me @sewexplicit on Instagram. Or let us create a hashtag #CelebrityStyleHack. Hehehe.

Book Review Plus Free Downloads: Pattern Drafting and Grading by M.Rohr

I know a whole of Nigerian sewers prefer to self-draft their patterns. Well, this post is for you if you like to draft your own sewing patterns. I am reviewing a vintage pattern making text book from the 1940s. I first came across a copy of this book about 12 years ago. It was my intro to drafting books and I have learnt immensely from it over the years. At a time when I wished for current/popular texts, I thought it was ancient  and not relevant.  I have come to realise that this book remains one of the best. A number of modern authors have directly or indirectly referenced the book. Trends may change but the fundamental principles remain the same.
